WRITING TIPS

So you want to be an author?  Since you are interested in writing, I would suggest starting out writing about what you know...your pet, family, school, etc.

Don't try to write about things you do not know about unless you do a lot of research first.

WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW!

When you write about things you are familiar with, you are writing with authority; you are the expert on the topic.  There are two words that go together...Authority and Author.  When you, the AUTHOR, write with AUTHORITY, you give the reader a positive feeling.  It is very important to know what you are "talking" about when writing.

After you write, read aloud what you have written.  I read all my writing out loud.  If it does not sound good out loud, it will not read well.

The most important thing about writing and trying to get published is to have patience.  Be prepared to get many rejection letters from publishers.  This does not mean that your work is no good.  Thousands of authors (or wannabe authors) send their works to publishers every day.  VERY few get selected.

Do not give up.  As a new author you WILL get many rejection letters.  Don't let that stop you.  Keep sending out those query letters to publishers.  It may take many months (sometimes years) before you get someone who is interested.  Keep trying.  Even published authors get rejections on new works.

Good Luck!
